Hello,

Albatross Gets Wet! Even in May 2019

Members of Albatross Lodge of Mark Master Masons No. 1994 and their guests took to the fairways of the Shire Golf Club to do battle on the inaugural Champions Cup meeting, vying for the PGM’s Cup which is a beautiful claret jug presented by RW. Bro. David Ashbolt

The day in fact was sunny and a little windy, ideal conditions for golf, however, players assembling on the first tee were greeted by a short par 3 which led to an island green. Little did we know that this was just a taste of things to come. For water and island greens were abundant. With six par fives, six par fours and six par three’s the Seve Ballesteros designed course was a true challenge.

It soon became crystal clear that the winner of the competition would be the one who lost the least balls. Brian Wakely even tried to fit a floatation device on his best ball but that did not work either.

We were superbly looked after by the staff, the day starting with freshly baked bacon rolls and nice coffee. Organised by Mick the Marshall, who gave us valuable advice on the course and provided hot coffee at the halfway house.

A great three course dinner was enjoyed by all and on completion the RW Bro. David Ashbolt presented the PGM’s Cup to the inaugural winner, W. Bro. Peter Carvin. Minor prizes for best guest, longest drive, nearest the pin and best use of the course were also presented by him in the great humour in which they were intended.

The room was then cleared and rigged for the Lodge meeting which was presided over by W. Bro. Simon McCarthy our Worshipful Master.

That concluded a most excellent day enjoyed by all participants.
