London Mark Rugby Football Club – players & supporters wanted!
London Mark RFC has been founded during the global pandemic! Oh wonderful Masons! During the lockdown many of us have stayed at home, trained less, eaten more (bulking for the LMRFC season, of course) and seen significantly less of our dear friends. It was during the lockdown that I came across a post regarding the England Masonic team that has been put together by W Bro Richard Hogg and co. I thought I would sign up for the London Masonic Rugby Team as I presumed there would be one, alas there was not. Fast forward a week and a few conversations with Kevin Hendle of Spirit of Rugby Lodge of Mark Master Masons. We have the backing from our PGM Tom Quinn and the Exec within London. So here we are, backed by the London Province of Mark Master Masons, Spirit of Rugby Mark 2014 and The Essex RFU.
The committee was formed with APGM John Ellis kindly taking the role as Chairman. London Mark RFC will be playing their first fixture on the 27 October against the Leicestershire Light Blues, current holders of the Masonic Challenge Cup. Not bad to be playing for a Cup in our first game, is it? Now the serious part; we need YOU, as a supporter or a player, we need your support in any way you can. LMRFC is a Rugby Club; when we founded the club it was to facilitate those who enjoy rugby and Freemasonry. So many people, especially the newer and younger members, want more than just ritual and festive boards – they joined for companionship which can often stop after meetings. We now have an opportunity to meet up with our Brothers, keep active and fit, play a sport we love and create a club with a great culture where we all belong and are influenced.
Training will start September (Covid guidance allowing), with the first fixture on 27 October as previously mentioned. The Club is open to both non-Freemasons and Freemasons. Membership is £20 per year (you then become a voting member at the AGM) and £10 Playing Subs. Please email John (johnhwellis100@gmail.com) or myself (sammy3947@gmail.com) to register your interest.
